Minituber Production

The Scottish seed industry has a higher proportion of its production derived from minitubers than any of our major overseas competitors.

The stock sold by Higgins from its own production is entirely derived from this high health starting point.

Peat based production has been carried out for a number of years and is still the basis of most of our production. We are now in our sixth year of commercial hydroponic minituber production which we believe can offer lower unit costs and more flexibility within our supply chain.

As well as producing minitubers for our own requirements, we have a substantial business maintaining stocks and supplying minitubers to several well known seed companies and individual seed growers.
